IN KAMPALA: UGANDA, SRI-LANKA TO SHARE MILITARY OPERATIONS

President Yoweri Museveni has held talks with the visiting Sri- Lanka Defence minister Gotabaya Rajabaksa.


The meeting at State House Entebbe on Monday was also attended by Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Uganda Vellupillai Kananathan.

The President and his visitor discussed bilateral relations including co-operation in the areas of military and defence.

The two countries further discussed sharing experience on military operations, sharing experience on disaster and offering specialized training to UPDF.

Others at the meeting included state minister for defence Jeje Odong and Lt Gen. Charles Angina   while Sri Lanka Air Force Chief, Air Martial K.A  Gunatilake and General Silver accompanied Rajabaksa.

Last November Museveni visited Sri Lanka at the invitation of his counterpart, Mahinda Rajapaksa  who also visited Uganda in May.

Sri Lanka has per capita income US$2,877 compared to that of Uganda of US$500. The main economic sectors of the country are tourism, tea export, clothing, rice production and other agricultural products.

In addition to these economic sectors, overseas employment contributes highly in foreign exchange.

Sri Lanka is an island in the northern Indian Ocean off the southern coast of the Indian subcontinent in South Asia.
